Frizz Ease hair care review from John Frieda.

Until the last year or so hair care isn't something I really invested in. Then I decided to bleach all of my hair and dye it pretty much every colour under the sun. Then keeping up the maintenance as well as a life time of heat on it, it's pretty much wrecked. I was recently was sent some John Frieda products to try, I've heard of the brand on many occasions but I've never really invested in it. I used to be the kind of girl who just picked whatever was on offer, and then fell in love with brands like Aussie and OGX. Similarly to skincare, hair care often gets pushed to the side and often not much money goes into it. I mean I know if I had some spare cash, I would rather pick up a new make-up item rather than some decent hair or skin care. However times have changed, I am 22 with a full time job and I have a bit more money to invest in a decent shampoo and conditioner. I am that type of person who goes through conditioner like no tomorrow, honestly I get through a bottle in 4 or 5 showers. My hair is thick and like I said very damaged. Shampoo lasts me a little longer, and if I had to chose between the two I will often cheap out on the shampoo.

What did I think of John Frieda, frizz ease? 
So these two products come in at £7.99 each from Boots which is a little more than I'd be willing to spend on shampoo usually, however I noticed a change with this shampoo, I often feel like my hair still feels a bit dirty and possibly greasy (I am obsessed with my hair being clean), I've read online it is possibly a build up of product left in my hair which I didn't even know was a thing. But using this it seemed to make my hair feel cleaner for more days. So I felt less inclined to wash it everyday which I usually do. Which for me is amazing, no other shampoo I've used has ever gave me the same clean feeling as this one did.

With the conditioner, it smells amazing however I had to use a fair bit to coat my hair nicely so it did run out in 4 uses for me. I found my hair to feel more soft then when I've used other brands such as Tresemme or herbal essences however compared to OGX and Aussie I felt like it was still lacking a little in the moisture department. But like I said my hair destroyed so who knows. The smell of John Freida is one of the best I've smelt out of any I've owned, my hair feels good after using it and like something I'd probably want to buy again, in the Shampoo form anyway. As far as Frizz ease goes I would definitely say it does the job in that department, my hair feels a lot smoother and more in control which is always a plus. Overall a pretty good set of products, however not completely sold on the conditioner.

What I'm listening to lately!

My music taste over the last year has actually grown so much, I used to be a person who would only listen to rock music but I'm into more upbeat music lately, I think I have my boyfriend to thank for that. Although when I was growing up I didn't realise actually how much music impacted your mood, for me now it's a big thing. When I am feeling down and I go to listen to one of my 'sad' playlists it only brings my mood further down. I thought I'd create a little 'playlist' of music I've been listening to lately and hopefully you find something on there that you like.

Kesha- Praying.

The first time I heard this song it sent chills down my spine, not only is it beautifully written and sang, it's about something so important. It is showing us that Kesha is regaining control of her life, and she's being damn brave whilst doing it. It's empowering and makes you feel inspired. If you haven't heard this song yet, you are seriously missing out.

Taylor Swift- Look what you made me do.
Love it or hate it, everyone is talking about it. It's Taylor Swifts new song and the first time I heard it I was completely shocked, I heard she was bringing out new music and was super happy as I listen to her most days since she's been back on Spotify, then to hear her new song it threw me a little. However it seems to be stuck in my head, I feel like in parts it's a little bad, however for the most part it's unique and totally not the old Taylor. As well she says, the old Taylor is 'dead!'

Zedd & Foxes- Clarity.
I hadn't heard this song until Will introduced me to it, but it's super upbeat and gets stuck in your head. It was released in 2012 and I wish I had heard it a lot sooner to be honest. I love that in the song it sounds like it has a football chant going on, but it definitely adds to the build of the song. The lyrics are sang beautifully by Foxes too.

B.o.B- Magic.
Throwback to this beast of a song! I haven't heard this in years until I heard it on the radio recently and it got stuck in my head so I added it to my playlist and I am forever playing it, for me it's such a mood booster of a song, constantly brings my mood up.

Eminem- Stan.
So at the start of this year I fell in love, I fell in love with Eminem, in ways which I didn't know where possible. I hadn't really listened to much of his music before then, apart from his songs with Rihanna, however when I heard Stan I was hooked, it's a really hard hitting song, and it's like a story through words, again another song which sent shivers down my spine. I am also a huge fan of Mockingbird and Toy Soldiers.

Alone- Halsey.
Halsey has one of the best voices I've ever heard, it's so beautiful to listen to and I could listen to her all day. I often relate to her lyrics and the ones in this song are amazing. It's sang from the heart and you can tell it is a meaningful song.

R.E.M- Imitation Of Life.
Another favourite added to my playlist by my lovely boyfriend, it's such a classic song and gets stuck in your head straight away, as the song progresses it gets better in my opinion although the whole of the song is amazing. My favourite lyrics are in the chorus and they are:

"That's sugarcane that tasted good

That's cinnamon, that's Hollywood

C'mon, c'mon no one can see you try"

So super catchy, damn.

Regina Spektor- Us.

I first heard this song in the film 500 days of Summer, it was so catchy and got stuck in my head right away like most of the soundtracks from the film. So I looked it up and looked up Regina Spektor who has a one of kind voice, and sings about the most relevant things. To me it's a super intense song which I can happily listen to on repeat over and over.

Sigrid- Don't kill my vibe.

Another powerful song on my playlist, on first listen it captured my attention, the lyrics hit so hard with me. I feel how she has felt. It feels to me like it is a I am taking back my life from someone and making it my own again, which is what I went through earlier this year so it gives me great levels of confidence.

Products I'm loving lately!

I originally planned on doing an August favourite but decided to start doing favourites posts as of next month, so I have more time to plan it. However, I do have four amazing products which stood out to me this month and I decided to feature them here as well as do a little mini review of each. In this post, I will be featuring two products from Antipodes, a candle from Durance which was sent by the lovely people at Rooi. As well as a lush hand cream from Leafy & Lovely which doesn't seem to be available to buy any more (pretty sure I received it in a PR package at some point from Superdrug.) Hopefully, you enjoy this post and if you have any recommendations of products I should try let me know!

Durance Fleur de Coton candle:
I previously mentioned the brand Durance in my last haul from Rooi, where I tried their
Riviera Soiree candle which I cannot seem to find anywhere anymore and I am gutted as it smells AMAZING. However when I was recently sent this candle, again it has a beautiful scent and to say it is quite a neutral scent and a medium sized candle it sure does pack a punch. To me it smells like to best smelling fresh bed sheets ever, you know the warm out of the tumble dryer, put straight on the bed whilst they're still warm, washed in the best fabric conditioner, that's the scent of this. I have it lit for a few hours a night and the whole of my upstairs smells divine.

Leafy & Lovely hand lotion:
I was recently sorting out some boxes in the corner of my office and I found a lovely floral box which said leafy and lovely on it and it really caught my eye so I decided to open it up. I am not the biggest fan of hand creams so I thought I wouldn't like it, but with using a lot of hand sanitizer at work and my hands being dry I decided it was worth a go. I was met with a gorgeous floral scent which I never expect it to smell like, it leaves your hands a little sticky but I assume it would be the same for most hand creams? It made my hands in better condition in a matter of days which I was impressed with. It's quite a strong scent which I really enjoy and can't stop myself from just smelling the tube as it's so lovely!

Antipodes Manuka honey mask:
If you suffer from acne the Manuka honey mask from Antipodes is going to be your new best friend, the Manuka honey in this mask has antibacterial properties in, perfect for helping to cleanse your skin and clear blemishes at the same time! The bottle recommends using it twice a week in the evening which is easy to implement it into my routine as I love doing face masks and do them often. I am a huge fan of the smell of this face mask, I am awful at explaining smells however it to me smells sweet with a hint of vanilla. The mask costs £24.99 which is more than I would usually spend on a face mask but as it does the job I am happy. For a whole face you only need around a 2p sized blob, so it should last a good few months using it twice a month. The mask isn't too drying and doesn't freeze your face in place like some masks do. To remove it a warm flannel will do the job. Then moisturise. If you want a full review including before and after pics, let me know in the comments! 

Antipodes Avocado Pear nourishing night cream: 
I am pretty sure this is one of the most expensive skin products I've owned to date, I should invest more money into my skincare routine and recently that has become apparent to me. Again this can be purchased from Feel Unique and costs £39.99. I have started to use this on an evening after removing my makeup and doing a cleanse. You don't need much of this product either, a little does a lot. What I've found I like most about this product in the short time I've been using this is it cures dry patches really quickly, in about a week I noticed a huge improvement on my skin. Whereas it's taken others a month or so for me to notice. Only thing I will mention which is on the downside is if you are on the oilier side, I feel like this would only make that worse. However, with dry skin it is a god. The final thing about the nourishing night cream which I LOVE is the packaging it feels really luxurious and well worth the purchase.

University Essentials With Home Bargains!

University students are always on a hunt for a bargain, whether you're a fresher or in any other year or even just like cute stuff, this is the post for you. I was recently sent a box of goodies from Home Bargains of perfect items to take to university/for your student house. The best part? The entire box (everything featured in this post) all together cost less than £20! I couldn't believe it when I added all of the items together and it was a little over £18 which is crazy! Below I am going to share with you these items and how much they cost in case you want to pick up any of these items! 

I am actually obsessed with stationery and can spend hours and hours in Ryman and Paperchase as well as searching for the perfect planner and notebooks online. I've never thought to look in Home Bargains for stationery before which is a little stupid of me, as they have some great deals! So I was sent a pack of flavoured gel pens (throwback much?) which are £1.29 although I can't say they're super scented they are pretty colours and perfect for making your notes more interesting! The mini highlighters with the cutest little faces on are only 89p (so cheap!) and are again useful for when making notes or just to have a cute face in your pencil case. Finally the vintage weekly planner is the best way to keep meal organised as well as to write down plans and is great for a desk buddy and is only 79p! I use mine for blog ideas as well as food for each day (when I remember.) Home Bargains also sell clear pencil cases for 49p and a variety of other notebooks and pens!

Let the drinks begin: 
I could not think of another way to title this collection of items, so I decided to just name it based on what the items will be mostly used for and that's drinking. So the biggest bargain in the whole haul is the mason jar/drinking glass for 59p, I've seen this go for more than £4.00 in other shops so to see them at just 59p is great, lets face it is in halls/student housing you do not want to spend the earth on pretty things as they'll get wrecked. So for a little over £2.00 you can have 4 of these bad boys. Next are a box of plastic straws, honestly they come in so handy for reasons you won't even know, plus they're always good for drinks and someone always wants a straw. For 100 straws it is 69p! On to the ice cube tray, ice can be a good idea in theory for drinks, especially if you drink anything on the rocks, and carrying a bag of ice from the supermarket to your accommodation is never fun (totally not speaking from experience) The heart ice cube tray is 79p and makes the cutest ice cubes.

On to the alcohol itself, shots from Home Bargains are always a must for pres, you can get 4 shots for 99p the ones pictured are strawberries and creme ones however there are a few other choices, and the tube shots are 39p and totally worth stocking up on. They're not the best tasting things in the world, however they're cheap and get you tipsy and you can also purchase other alcohol in stores such as beer, wine and other spirits.

Lets talk kitchens: 
As well getting super cheap cleaning supplies from Home Bargains (honestly get them from here rather than the Supermarket you save SO much!) You can also get a 16 piece cutlery set for £1.79 and for student accommodation when stuff just happens to go missing a lot it feels a little less painful when you've paid less than two quid that's for sure. They're pretty good quality for the cost and I would recommend as I always just end up repurchasing them. However if you want to stop others using your cutlery I would buy the most standout cutlery ever so if you see people using them, you know they're yours. You can also buy a variety of foods from Home Bargains including Pot Noodles (welcome to university!) and they're only 65p, as well as pasta pots which you chuck in the microwave for a few minutes and chuck over pasta, easy dinner. I've noticed from the times I've been in Home Bargains also sell pasta bake which is amazing to make on your first day and split into many portions, read more about my freshers tips here. I would advise buying branded food in Home Bargains as it is often a fraction of the cost. 

The main event: 
In university if you're not at lectures or out with your friends you're usually in your bedroom, so you need to make it as nice as possible. Often the rooms are quite small especially in halls so it's worth finding things which will take up as less room as possible. Home Bargains sell a great wash basket that folds up into a tiny disk when not being used and is only 79p! As well as this to make your room more homely you can purchase some fairy lights for £3.99 and they're battery powered so easy to use and they just make it feel more comforting. As well as this putting pictures up of family and friends back home, often helps with the loneliness you can feel when you've moved away from home. Home Bargains also have some fab picture frames for 99p and they're small so easy to put on your desk etc. Final item in the hall is this lovely candle, I am forever raving about the candles which you can get from Home Bargains for £2.99 you can get a HUGE one the size of the large Yankee Candle, which is mad! For £2.29 you can get a smaller stronger smelling candle and also it is more space effective, woo!

Tips for first time renters!

Rewind back two years and I was moving into my first student house, I was nervous to move out of home but the excitement took over. I felt like a real adult, my mum wasn't going tell me to clean up anymore or to turn my music down. I would be in control and I could do whatever I wanted. Living in a student house is fun, but it's also nowhere near as difficult as moving into a place on your own or with my ex in my case. So rewind back again but this time to July 2016, I had moved into a new house, a bigger house and it was all mine. By this point I was ready to never live with another person again, moving is hard and getting settled with anxiety is even harder. However I am still in that property and I am super lucky as my landlord is lovely. So I am here to share my top tips for first time renters in collaboration with Homelet. Let me know in the comments your tips for first time renters. 

Look around until you're sure: 
Renting a property in my opinion is never going to be your perfect house, as you are not allowed in most cases to make the changes you want to make, however it's worth finding a place you at least want to live, if you're completely picking apart the place it probably isn't the one for you. Although it doesn't have to be a place you love for years at least make sure it is somewhere you enjoy being.

Make sure you can afford it: 
I remember when I was going flat viewing any of the ones I liked were out of my price range slightly, and even though it was only slightly that would leave me short every month. Even though the flat was nice and somewhere I could imagine myself living, the idea of worrying about money just made it not worth it. Half of the battle is finding somewhere nice within budget, but it's possible. I'd advising get all of the apps you can think of letting agencies and check them multiple times a day, something is eventually going to come up. 

Work out your bills beforehand: 
So you can afford the rent on the property, but how much are the bills. There are so many bills I didn't even think to consider when I moved in, but dependant on where you live and the factors of your living conditions these will vary for each person. But it's definitely worth working out council tax along with a rough estimate based on your previous home how much gas and electric you will use. Just to see if you can afford it. For example, heating a house is expensive and the bigger the house the more heat you'll need, it's things like that. It's worth checking how much your council tax will be prior also. Living on your own and being a student gets you 25% discount I believe. Which can be quite handy, make sure you advise the council of this and they will take it into account. OH and Tv license is another which nearly caught me out, I completely forgot they existed due to just watching Netflix in my student house, it's worth setting up a monthly direct debit for this so it's small chunks rather than all at once. 

Listen to advice: When I moved out and people tried to give me advice I felt like they were trying to take over my experience of moving out, however now I realise they were just trying to help. If someone tells you pieces of advice most of the time it's worth listening to. You think you know everything but really you often don't. It's great to hear other peoples experiences of moving out and their struggles so you can learn from them!

Tips for surviving freshers week!

September is the month in which most universities across the UK start, which for most people means freshers week! When you start university usually in first year it can be super overwhelming as for most it is a new place, a new group of friends and you've probably just moved away from home. Most years at university end up going out for freshers week because why would you pass up the chance to get drunk and have LOADS of fun (unless you don't drink obv, then that's ok too!) In your first year it can be a lot to take in and trust me we've all been there. Getting so drunk that you don't remember the night before, ending up in tons of clubs, spending that student loan that needs to last until January (ssshhh that's not important right?). So I am here with the help of fellow blogger and good friend of mine Kim! Hopefully you find these tips useful and thanks Kim for helping me come up with some of the tips for this post at 23:00.

1. Make your bed before unpacking anything else, coming home after a lot of drinking can be a nightmare as it is without not having a made bed to sleep in. It seems like a little bit of a bore, however you'll thank yourself later. 

2. This was my favourite tip that Kim gave me and it's pretty genius, make yourself a mass amount of food and separate it into portions to last you the week. Pasta bake is goals for this and you will pretty much be living off it at university along with super noodles anyway.

3. Seek out the good clubs/places to go beforehand, if you're in a city/big town there are going to be SO many clubs to choose from and they'll all have good deals on, however if you have to pay to enter you are going to want to make sure you scope out all of the good ones. Also on certain days there are events which are better than others. People from the area/higher years should be great for helping with this. 

4. Make sure you eat, drink and sleep!
With all of the stress of freshers week and being in a new place it can often be easy to forget to do the essential things, like eat, drink water and even sleep as you're out clubbing and then can have lectures the next day. However as boring as it sounds you don't want to get completely run down to the point where you're too ill to go out. 

5. Learn where your lectures are beforehand.
My worst nightmare is walking into anywhere late purely for the amount of stares you're gonna get, it is worth looking around and finding out where to go before you start as then you'll be able to get there easier. 

6. Make the effort to talk to people!
An easy way to do this, is to leave your door open and just say hi to people that are around, introducing yourself is a great way to get to know people. Learn peoples names so it looks like you are making an effort although this is a nightmare as you'll meet SO many new people. If you struggle at making friends, just smile at people and try hang around in an area where you're likely to meet your new flatmates. Like the kitchen. One you're drinking the talk will start to flow a little easier. 

7. Pain killers are your new best friend. 
Nothing worse than waking up the next morning with the hangover from hell and having no way to cure it. We've all been there, however if you have a stash (of paracetamol) then you're sorted. Plus you're totally the hero if somebody else you live with needs them also. 

8. Budget, budget and budget.
I remember getting my first student loan/grant and thinking god damn I am loaded and living the high life for about a week and then thinking o shit. It is important to remember the money has to last you until the middle of January. Often it helps to get a part time job, I got one at the end of first year to see me through the summer, and then had one for a while in second year too. It's great just to get some extra money when funds are low.

What are your tips for surviving freshers?

By any means this isn't a glamorous topic to talk about, however it's a real topic and it affects a hell of a lot of us. Mental health is something that we need to talk about, we need the stigma to break down and we need to be brave and stand together and fight against it. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, and it's time for us to talk. Did you know an average of 18 people take their own lives every single day? And the worst part about the horrifying stat is that it can be mostly avoided, through talking, through support. I am telling you this from someone who has been on the edge and ready to jump on several occasions. Mental illness is a fucking lonely place, I'll tell you that now. It's scary, you feel like there is nobody in the entire world who actually cares about you, your own brain starts to convince you that you're worthless, that nobody would notice if you weren't here anymore, that life is too difficult to carry on. Some of us are 'lucky' and manage to talk ourselves down from 'jumping' or have others who make us realise, but what about those who don't? What about those who are alone, or who don't feel like they can turn to anyone? What about those who take their own lives?

Suicide doesn't just affect one type of person, it can affect anyone. We wake up and take notice when celebrities take their own lives, take Chester Bennington for example, that man was a legend, he had a great career, a family and a lot of things most people dream of, yet it wasn't enough; mental illness destroyed that man, and he felt like he had no other way out. He screamed out for help in a lot of his songs, but nobody seemed to take note until it was too late. The world was gutted - me included - that someone so amazing could take their own life. But what people don't realise suicide isn't just a choice you take lightly, your whole brain turns you upside down, convinces you not to fight and when even the voices in you are telling you enough is enough, of course we are going to want to give up. We took note of Chester, but what about all those other people who also took their lives that day? Do those people even cross your mind? So many people are struggling and nobody even bothers to reach out. Your friend starts acting different, disconnected, cancels plans and is avoiding you. Don't be mad, check in. It's a lot easier to be mad, don't get me wrong, but what if they need you? What if this is their cry for help in disguise. As someone who has taken multiple overdoses, and self-harmed for the past 10 years, I am lucky to be here. I've taken so many tablets in the past that I don't even know why I've survived, but I have. I am lucky.

Don't get me wrong, there are days where I consider “what if, maybe it would be like ___” etc. However, I have my boyfriend and some supportive friends who are often able to help me out of that dark place. But what about those who don't feel like they can talk to their friends? This mainly happens to males, due to the idea of being judged and not being manly enough, and to be honest that's not okay. MEN have just as much right to talk about mental health as any other person on the planet. Men experience feelings the same way in which everyone else does, and being told to “man up”, or “get a grip” isn't helping. Mental illness is not as simple as getting a grip. Trust me if it was, so many of us would have done so by now, am I right? But do you know what makes me really mad about the situation? We tell people to get over it, assume they're okay because they seem happy, tell them everything will be fine and get on with it, but honestly this isn't enough. You wouldn't dare turn around tell people who have had a stroke to just get on with it. We already feel guilty enough, and that's why we hide our struggles but your words stick with us forever.

I understand a lot of people are scared to admit they have a problem, because who wants to be branded as 'mental' and ‘unstable’, right? I am glad the stigma is moving in the right direction, but there shouldn't be ANY. It's an illness, just like any other. Needs medication, treatment, days off, support just like any other yet people don't seem to understand until it's too late. I am asking you - if you only do one thing today, reach out to someone you haven't spoken to in a while, find out how they're doing. Make their day. You can do this. Together we can do this. We can change the world.
